About Skirts

Skirts In Dirt is a nationwide organization for women working in the field of real estate. Headquartered in Dothan, AL with support in strategic locations across the United States, our mission is to become the gathering place for women in real estate.

Through the power of community and the tools of social networking, women of all walks and ways are connected to their own greatest potential – both professionally and personally. We create bridges together where none were before, and weave a tapestry of incredible women who alone are quite capable, but together make magic.

Founded by Kathi King, a veteran in the real estate industry, Skirts In Dirt has evolved since its inception in 2006 into what members see today—a site centered on networking and education, spirit, and life balance. Kathi has built a team of managing partners with diverse backgrounds and specialties, and the organization’s direction is based on a potpourri of their unique experiences and energy.

Kathi is a 20+ year veteran in the online and offline publishing community, with specific expertise in the real estate industry. She has held senior positions with Gannett News, Homestore/Realtor.com, Harmon Homes and Fidelity National Real Estate Solutions. In addition to Skirts In Dirt, she currently puts her knack for building relationships and connecting people to work for Dee Signs, VoicePad and REI Caravan. Kathi resides in Dothan, AL with her husband and four dogs.

Ernie Bottom
Managing Partner

Ernie entered the Real Estate industry in 1987 when he joined Roger Scommegna at The Enterprise. Based in Milwaukee, WI, The Enterprise developed products such as Television Home Shows, Property Hotline Systems, Greeting Card Follow-Up Programs, Broker Web Sites and Agent Marketing Videos. Most recently Ernie worked at Fidelity National Financial’s Cyberhomes.com, helping bring the site to the forefront of listing aggregation and property valuations. In his more than 20 years in the industry, Ernie has had the privilege to work with many of the top brokers, marketing directors and IT managers in the nation. He’s eager to introduce his real estate friends to the great networking and self-improvement opportunities at Skirts In Dirt.

Valerie Mercurio
Managing Partner

With more than 15 years of digital marketing experience, Valerie has helped both Fortune 500 companies as well as small business owners reach their marketing goals through the use of the Internet. Most recently, Valerie spent 10 years in various senior leadership positions within CENTURY 21 Real Estate Corporation – first as vice president of interactive marketing and then moving into other vp roles in strategic marketing and business development. Prior to her tenure at CENTURY 21, Valerie honed her marketing skills with great brands such as Six Flags Theme Parks and Home Box Office – serving in the capacity of video producer, webmaster and production manager. Currently, Valerie is the president of Quicksilver Consulting and provides digital marketing consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses. Valerie also provides consultative training seminars to real estate brokers around the country focusing on the integrated use of search, social and website optimization.
