Sandy-
Your comments are right on! I have so many friends who aren't in the industry and they feel that being a real estate agent is easy. I am afraid that when the times were good several people got their license not having a full understanding of what it really means to be a Realtor® and that is why NAR membership shot up over 1.3 million members. We hope that Skirts will become the voice of women in real estate, give our members a place to assist others in both their professional and personal lives.

Not only should you have a date night, remember to have a girls night out, a kids day and a day just for you!

Before a person decides to develop a career in Real Estate, it is always wise to do the full research into what it truly entails; unfortunately, brokers are so eager to bring in new agents that they are never truly candid with these people until well after they have taken their exams, have afilliated and are still trying to get that first listing or sale. It is only then that they learn that, to really havea career in Real Estate, one must put one's personal life on the back burner, devote a minimum of sixty (but usually eighty or more) hours per week to working at Real Estate, and that its costs a bundle to simply afford to be a licensed salesperson who is able to receive toe money - often more than one might make in a year. If a wife goes into the business, her husband needs to be prepared to take over plenty of her responsibilities, from laundry to cooking, from PTA meetings to staying home with sick children. And if hubby is unwilling to cheerfully carry out what he promised to do in his marriage vows, in sickness and in health, then we have the explanation for the high incidence of divorce among Real Estate licensees.

No doubt, it would be best to have a deep, honest dialogue before entering the field, but we know that doesn't always happen so the next best thing is a regular "date" in which private time is spent to the exclusion of all else: no cell phones, no interruptions. A spa day for two, perhaps, or a weekend at the beach: anything that represents "time away" with a special person helps to keep joy and energy in one's life.
